The season is now opening up for so many activities in the Blue Ridge as the leaves will start turning green and the flowers will soon be in bloom. This is the start of my favorite time of year!!
The music festivals, the bands playing in the park, the wineries having music and also restaurants. Everything comes alive! June 23rd starts Concert in the Park season with Woody and The String Pullers. You can take a chair, eat from the food trucks and have a glass of wine. It is always a favorite in Banner Elk.
Moses Cone opens today and I can’t wait to go as there have been major renovations going on.They will be open from Wednesdays (10am-4:45pm )till Sunday. They are now members of the Southern Highland Craft Guild. Turned bowls, ceramics, woven garments will be on sale. The will have craft demonstrations on the front porch for all to experience.
Flat Top Manor, the centerpiece of Moses H. Cone Memorial Park on the Blue Ridge Parkway, once again gleams from its perch overlooking Bass Lake, after 14 months of renovations. There was a $2.4 million rehabilitation on the 1901 Colonial Revival Style Home. They are listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
Appalachian Heritage Week starts April 18-April 22. There will be speakers, musicians and potters featured at Lees Mc Crae College. Come and enjoy the history and the people that make it.
We will be hosting an Artist Retreat workshop with d’Lauren. Her classes are “designed to inspire a love for beauty that surrounds you.” Go to Watercolor workshop at the lodgeatriverrun.com. I hope you will enjoy this new venture at the Lodge. Good news, if you have a friend that wants to come you can share a room. I hope to see you for the workshop. Please call and I will be glad to help you with reservations for The Lodge at River Run and your dining while in the area.
I finished my food adventure in Roan Mountain. Loved the cheeseburger at The Snack Wagon!!!! I sat out with the locals on the picnic tables and heard all about the hiking trails on Hump Mountain….. While I love a burger, they are known for Philly Steak Sandwiches. So I guess I will have to go back. (Can’t get there fast enough )
To recap..
Smoky Mountain Bakers is known for the best Brick Oven Pizza, The Snack wagon for the best burger and Philly cheese steak, Porto Neuvo Fresh Mex and Seafood,( I eat there once a week now), The Highlander Barbecue known for their Pig Wings and The Americana for the Steak Dinner. In May, the Americana will be open for lunch. I can now tell you if you are going to Roan Mountain there are great places to eat. I have been sending guests and they are really liking the food. Keep that in mind for the Rhododendrom Festival and Hiking in Roan and Hump Mountain.
Next week I am on my way to the Greek Restaurant in Boone… Can’t wait!
Have a Happy Easter!
