Welcome to The Lodge at River Run

Escape to The Lodge at River Run, a peaceful and inviting bed and breakfast in Banner Elk, North Carolina. Hidden away on ten acres overlooking the idyllic Elk River, this is a refuge like no other. Here you will encounter five-star luxury that emphasizes warm and friendly service in a tranquil, intimate atmosphere.

In this serene Elk River valley setting, our luxurious accommodations are accented with a warm log-home flair. Thoughtful touches invite pampering and romance, such as an outdoor fireplace and a fire pit by the river, king-size beds with the finest linens, private baths, an outside hot tub, hammocks, and a hanging bed and lounges. This lodge offers five exclusive and very private rooms, each with a unique style and an excellent view. Unwind at the day’s end by enjoying a complimentary wine and cheese reception, where you can meet our staff and share stories with other guests. On special evenings, we will have live entertainment featuring local artists on the outside terrace.

Do as much or as little as you’d like in the serene surroundings of The Lodge at River Run. Wander the lush grounds, relax in the Adirondack chairs and listen to the river gurgling by, or take in the beautiful scenery from either of the two covered decks while enjoying the outdoor fireplace. Relax in the hot tub or take a nap in one of the outdoor hammocks or the hanging bed. You are welcome to enjoy fishing along the banks of the river in front of our property. The river holds rainbow and brown trout ranging from 8”-20” in length. We request that a single barbless hook be used on artificial lures or flies, and that you treat the fish with respect and return them to the river with minimal handling.

For the adventurous, the area provides activities to enjoy year-round. Explore the scenic hiking trails of Grandfather Mountain and Pisgah National Forest. Go skiing, snowboarding, or tubing at Sugar and Beech Mountains. Enjoy whitewater rafting or kayaking on the Watauga River.

After zip lining, hiking, or mountain biking over the mountainous terrain, relax your muscles in our large hot tub while taking in the fresh air. Afterwards, sit by the river in front of the blazing fire pit and mingle with other guests while sipping on a glass of wine. There may even be a movie showing in the riverside great room or on the covered porch, complete with popcorn and soft drinks.

You may want to dine out at one of the many excellent restaurants close by the lodge. We will be happy to make suggestions for your reservation. During peak season, many restaurants will book weeks ahead – so the sooner you make a decision, the more likely you will be able to dine at the restaurant of your choice!

The Lodge at River Run is only two miles from downtown Banner Elk and Lees-McRae College. You will find many intriguing shops and outdoor parks to pass the time away. Blue Ridge Parkway is only minutes away and the towns of Blowing Rock and Boone, encompassing Appalachian State University, are only 20 miles away. Almost every weekend during the summer, there will be festivals and craft fairs along with outdoor concerts and plays.
