Hawks Tour at Hawksnest sounds like fun! It has 11 cables with 2 swinging bridges for $80.00. The cable tour is 1.5 miles of cable riding high over 150 feet. The tour travels through the trees, lakes and creeks with speeds up to 35mph.
This sounds like fun for those that like adventure and the thrill of zip lining.
The Orchard at Altapass will reopen May 3rd. You will take a journey back to simpler times and discover what makes the “red barn” on the blue ridge parkway a destination. You can start with live traditional music and dance. If you would like, free dance lessons are offered every weekend. Jump on a hayride and listen to tales of the Revolutionary War and the Overmountain men as you go through the orchard. I will say the hayride is something you do not want to miss. It is one of the most fun things to do here. The man that takes you through the history of the mountain help put the first man on the moon. He says he traded one apple for another. So many people requested his true stories that they have videos of his true tales.
This year the Orchard will host four evening performances which begin in June. There is a tribute to Johnny Cash and also Gospel and Bluegrass concerts in August. Add to that, two heritage plays and picnics on Memorial, Independence and labor days with food and entertainment. There will also be a furry fashion show named “Dog on the Runway.”
2019 is the 25th anniversary of the Orchard. Bill Carson and his wife have focused on “saving the good stuff,” preserving the areas history and culture. They have done so much for the mountains and hope to share it with others.
