Winter in the Mountains

Winter is here and the snow is beautiful.  As I look out my window, I see a blanket of snow on the ground and ice glistening on the limbs to the trees. The banks of the river are lined with snow and ice. The water is rushing down stream and the sounds of this is quite remarkable. The scenery is quite a beautiful picture that I want to capture on a canvas.  It’s times like this I want to sit by the window and enjoy a hot cup of tea and relax looking at the beauty of the mountains.

WinterFest starts Jan. 25th and ends on Jan. 28th.  There are so many things that are associated with that weekend.  It begins with a fashion show and then there are wine tastings, ice skating, Ice carving demonstrations, JazzFest, hayrides and a Bonfire Party.  This will be held in Blowing Rock so some of you may want to enjoy shopping  in the quaint mountain town.  For the times of the events go to the WinterFest website.

The Great Cardboard Box Derby is January 28th.  The  Beech Mountain Resort is celebrating the 50 years they have been here so they decided to bring this Box derby event back as it was quite popular.  If you want to enter the registration is $25.00.  You can go on line and get the guidelines of how to build your cardboard box.

Also, Beech Mountain will be having “the Totally Retro Weekend” February 22-25.  This year there will be live 80’s music each night. The  Retro ski fashion show should be a highlight along with other actives ranging from the Rubiks Cube games to the 80’s Karaoke contest.  Don’t forget to wear your 80’s outfit as there will be a contest for the very best.

March 11th you can dress up in your Easter costume and join Sugar Bear and Sweetie on the slopes in search of prize filled eggs.  You may win a 2018-2019 season pass.  Come out and join in on a fun day at Sugar Mountain.
