The Synchronous fireflies at Grandfather Mountain

I am sooooo excited about this event.  Grandfather mountain, for the first time in park’s history will have the “miraculous” spectacle of the synchronous fireflies this summer.

Tickets will go on sale May 23rd, and the viewing will take place on June 26,29 and July1.  Only 200 tickets will be available each night.

Just recently Grandfather discovered that a rare species of firefly, known as Photinus Carolinas, occupied the mountain. Those that have seen this event (Mating ritual) which the entire forest illuminates in flashing lights, described it as one of the most significant experiences in nature.  People say they are speechless.

One of the reasons this has gone undetected for so long at Grandfather is there are not a lot of people at the park at night.

We will be having the first Food Truck event the last weekend of the month.  I will certainly be there to try it all out.  But tonight, I am on my way to Gideons Ridge for dinner.  It is one of my very favorite restaurants in the area.  I will let you know next time about the delicious food.

Take care and I will let you know more events and places to eat next week.

Come and see us soon.  We are planting the flowers in the window boxes and the hosta is so beautiful in the flower beds around the lodge.  The fish are jumping in the river. The fire pit is now popular as guests enjoy sitting by the water with fire glowing in the night.
