Well, the 4th came and went with a Big Bang. We had a wonderful small town parade with animals, floats and people who wanted to celebrate our wonderful country. There were many food trucks this year with barbecue, pizza, chicken, ice cream and about anything you thought you might want to eat. The duck races were very popular but so were the egg tosses. It was a small town celebration that ended with fireworks at several locations. I think there was something for everyone… oh, did I mention all of the live music?
I wanted to highlight some of the events going on this month for you.
The Highland games kicks off today and goes through the 10th at Grandfather Mountain. This is the famous celebration for the Scottish clans with music, dancing and competitions. This is a major event and attended by thousands. I hope to see the competitions. I hear that the telephone pole toss contest proves to be strenuous and quite the show.
Broadway in the mountains started with “The Drowsy Chaperone.” I attended that performance and it was wonderful. “Matilda” opens on July 21st and runs through the 27th. I am looking forward to seeing that also. The summer performances bring in broadway actors and actresses and are really worth attending.
Guilded Age Antiques is having a Summer Soiree on July 23rd. I would imagine that this will be worth attending. Together with local artisans, they will be hosting a summer event with Booze and Bouquets,Boone Boards, Eat Crow and Grandfather Winery. They will have complementary wine, finger foods, and music. Exclusive discounts and deals will be available on July 24th in the store.
Avery fine Art and Master Crafts Festival will be July 15-17 and August 12-14. This will be held at Sugar Mountain.
Apple Hill Farm Events: Knitting with the Alpacas. July 9 and July 30
Farm Photography Tours will be July 30, Oct. 1, Oct.8
There are so many things to do in this area. I hope you will come and experience a few of these things with us. We have music, food and fun in the Mountains and would like to share them with you.
